House fire does heavy damage

A fire that heavily damaged a house at 1044 Ada Avenue around 7:51 p.m. Saturday is believed to have been intentionally set and is under investigation by Columbus Fire & EMS arson investigators, Chief Fire Marshall Greg Lang said Monday.

Lang said two mattresses were set afire using available combustibles at the house, causing $20,000 damage to the structure and $1,000 damage to the contents. The Saturday incident followed a fire Friday afternoon on a kitchen stove that he said is not thought to have been set.

No injuries were reported Saturday and firefighters had the blaze under control quickly Saturday evening, he said.
