Fast food restaurant robbed

Police are investigating an armed robbery which took place Thursday night at a fast food restaurant on Buena Vista Road.

Columbus Police Lt. Mark D. Starling said the Checkers at 4730 Buena Vista Road was robbed about 12:50 a.m. by a man armed with a handgun.

Employees of the restaurant were standing outside the back door when a man walked out of the shadows with a weapon and forced the employees to bang on the locked door until the manager let them in.

The gunman corralled all the employees into a back room them robbed the restaurant of an undisclosed amount of money. Next, the suspect moved his captives into the freezer.

Once inside the freezer the gunman took off and the employees activated a hold-up alarm from within the cooler, Starling said.

The suspect was described as a black male, between 25 and 30 years old and between 5-feet 11-inches and 6-feet 2-inches tall. He was wearing a dark hooded jacket, white t-shirt and blue jeans and he had a partial beard.
