When people talk about graphic novels as a legitimate, literary art form, much of the thanks can go to the independent publisher Top Shelf Productions, which has published more than 150 graphic novels and comics in the past 10 years, and many of them top-notch.
Columbus State University hosts Chris Staros, Top Shelf's publisher tonight in a lecture on “The History and Business of Comics.” Staros is also the president of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, the non-profit organization founded in 1986 to protect the First Amendment rights of the comics community.
He speaks at 6 p.m. today at Carpenters Hall, 4 Ninth Street in downtown Columbus. It's free. Details: 706-507-8300.
