Local Schools to Participate in Mix it Up Day

More than four million students across the country will step into their school cafeterias and out of their cliques on Nov. 13 as part of the sixth annual Mix It Up at Lunch Day, a project designed to foster respect and understanding in schools and communities.

The project sponsored by the Southern Poverty Law Center's Teaching Tolerance program encourages students to question and cross social boundaries in their school by sitting with someone new in the cafeteria for just one day.

More than 10,000 schools across the country are expected to participate.

Columbus schools expected to play a part are Hardaway High, Northside High, Columbus High, Spencer High, Jordan High, Carver High, Shaw High, Richards Middle School, Arnold Middle School, Fort Middle School, Dawson Elementary, Waddell Elementary, South Columbus Elementary, Key Elementary, South Columbus Elementary, The Academic Success Center and Our Lady of Lourdes.
