The Russell County School Board has decided to enter into contract negotiations with Yvette Richardson for their next superintendent.
The board voted 4-3 at a Tuesday night board meeting to negotiate a contract with Richardson, currently a principal with Robinson Elementary in Fairfield, Ala. She interviewed with the board on Friday, Nov.9.
Richardson, 49, has been a superintendent, assistant superintendent, principal and teacher with Fairfield City Schools. She received her bachelor's from Miles College in Fairfield, her master's and educational specialist degree from Samford University in Birmingham and a doctorate from the University of Alabama.
Richardson grew up in Fairfield and has two children.
If she accepts the contract, Richardson would oversee a school system that educates 3,698 students at eight schools: five elementary schools, one middle school, one high school and one alternative learning center.
The system has a budget of $33 million and employs 481.
