A Columbus man returning from training in Atlanta with a co-worker was killed in a one-vehicle wreck on Interstate 185 Thursday night.

Eric J. Craddock, 31, of Brittwood Apartments, Columbus, was killed when the driver of the 1997 Ford Explorer, Alexander White, 23, 2300 10th St., Columbus, told Georgia State Trooper Ken Rearden that he swerved to avoid hitting deer on the highway. The vehicle then left the roadway on the east side and he overcorrected. Rearden said the vehicle rolled several times.

Troup County Coroner Jeff Cook pronounced Craddock dead at the scene.

The call came in to the LaGrange Post, Georgia State Patrol, at 8:21 p.m. White said they were returning home from training sessions in Atlanta with their employer, Domino’s Pizza. Rearden said both men were wearing seatbelts, but that Craddock was partially thrown out of the vehicle.

White was taken by ambulance to West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, where he was treated for a fractured arm, Rearden said. The vehicle was extensively damaged. The case remains under investigation. Rearden said charges are pending.
