A 1998 Cadillac that was reported stolen was fully engulfed in flames when Columbus Fire & Emergency Services arrived early Saturday.
Chief Fire Marshal Greg Lang said the fire was reported at 5:10 a.m. at the intersection of Avondale and Rosemary roads where the vehicle had been abandoned.
Investigation determined that owner Terrance Jackson had reported the car stolen. The fire is listed as arson. Lang said it apparently started in the passenger section. The value of the vehicle was estimated at $8,000.
This is the latest in a series of reported vehicle thefts and burnings in Columbus. Three cars and pickup trucks worth more than $50,000 total were recently discovered abandoned and burned off Macon Road in east Columbus. Each had been reported stolen, Lang said.
