Man gets life in prison for raping child

Robert Acie Justus, guilty of the first-degree rape, sodomy and sexual abuse of a 9-year-old girl, will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Justus, 37, was sentenced today in Russell County Circuit Court to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the acts he committed against the girl he used to babysit.

Justus told Judge George Greene that he didn't commit the crimes a jury convicted him of after 15 minutes of deliberations. His estranged wife, who was in the courtroom for his sentencing, said later that she wanted to choke him when she heard those words.

"I'm just glad it's over," she said. "I'm glad justice is fulfilled."
