Car ends up in Sears basement

A Columbus woman traveling north on Rigdon Road about 7:20 a.m. Thursday lost control of the vehicle, plowed through a barrier fence at the old Sears tire center and her vehicle came to rest in the store basement in three or four feet of water, Columbus Police reported.

"A firefighter went down and got her out of the car," said Officer F. R. Carnes, who investigated the accident. "The car was removed later by a tow truck."

Carnes said the woman, Brenda Ludwig, complained of back pain and was transported to The Medical Center, where she was still in the emergency room after noon, a hospital spokeswoman said. But Carnes said there were no visible injuries.

He said a blood test was administered to determine if she was intoxicated and that charges are pending.
