PC schools host Heart Awards

The Phenix City School System will host the Heart of the Community Awards on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Central High School.

The annual ceremony honors outstanding employees and volunteers from Phenix City Schools.

It is sponsored by the Phenix City Education Foundation and proceeds from the program benefit the foundation's grant program.

The categories and nominees for 2008 are:

-- Classroom Teacher of the Year: Gypsy Cook, Alice Cornett, Tonnette Harris, Ashley Johnson, Latasha Kendrick, Patricia Miles, Kristi Miller, La Shawn Peterson, Stephanie Sigmon

-- Speciality Area Teacher of the Year: Courtney Cooper, Vivian Doresky, Rhonda Henry, Zandra Holloway, Montray Thompson, Jennifer Walker, Cissy Weathers

-- Rookie Teacher of the Year: Rhonda Campbell, Shacovah Evans, Nicole Kirkpatrick, Lorenzo Manuel, Rebecca Petty, Jessica Pittman, Tanja Smith

-- Support Employee of the Year: Loretta Alexander, Loretta Baber, Marcia Farrar, Cheryl Hunter, Jean Jenkins, Holly Jones, Attalia Long, Penny Passmore, Theressa Sanks

-- Food Service Employee of the Year: Ila Bentley, Barbara Blocker, Michelle Chambers, Sanderdee Hartman, Annie Ingram, Barbara Lias, Shirley Sparks
