Overnight storms caused light damage to the playground area at Westminster Christian School in Columbus, damaging fencing and playground equipment.
Four Pine trees and a large branch from a Sweet Gum tree caused the damage, which school officials found when they arrived Friday morning. A small section of fencing was damaged and the playground area for Kindergarden through second grade, currently unused, received damage.
By mid-morning, a five-person crew from Golden Tree Service Inc. was well on its way to cutting up and removing the fallen trees. Chuck Golden, owner of the company, said his phone began ringing at daylight with calls from people who had storm-related tree issues. He said most of the calls were from north columbus, with a few coming from Phenix City. he said most of the damage he had seen was "nothing too bad".
