Phenix City man shot in neck at nightclub

A Phenix City man was shot in the neck while trying to escape a fight at a Columbus nightclub on Eighth Avenue early Saturday.

Columbus police found Mark Menefee shot in the left side of his neck after officers were called to reports of a fight and someone shooting at the Sierra Palace at 1:45 a.m., Police Lt. Charles Kennedy said.

Menefee, 20, had been trying to run away from the fight and was hit by a stray bullet. He told police he did not know who shot him, Kennedy said.

Menefee was taken to The Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

Police broke up the large crowd outside the nightclub, but have made no arrests. The shooting remains under investigation.
