LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Fire officials are investigating an early morning blaze that killed a man and destroyed his home Sunday.
Fire fighters were dispatched about 3 a.m. to the suburban Atlanta house, which was completely engulfed in flames when they arrived, Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Tommy Rutledge said. Two residents, a mother and son, escaped the fire without injury, he said.
The father, 70, was found dead by firefighters inside the home, Rutledge said.
The single-story house had no working smoke detectors. One of the occupants discovered the fire after being awakened by a loud popping sound.
