It's bad news for musical train wreck fans, but the real competition on "American Idol" starts tonight.
No, you still won't be able to vote, but you will see performances by the 164 contestants who got the judges' OK for Hollywood. Wednesday, those singers will be narrowed to 24 -- the finalists who will next week vie for viewers' votes.
Tonight's two-hour episode is expected to attract attention not only because of the inevitable drama, but also because this is the first season Hollywood-round finalists can play musical instruments during their performances.
The action starts at 8 p.m. on Fox. As usual, reporter Sonya Sorich will blog "live," so be sure to check the "American Idol" blog at www.ledger-enquirer.com for minute-by-minute updates throughout the show.
