Col. Donald M. Sando, who retires from active duty Friday as director of the Infantry Futures Group, is actually in line for a promotion.
Sando, after 26 years in uniform, is becoming Fort Benning's first senior executive service member, the civilian equivalent of a brigadier general.
He has been named the director of capabilities development and integration for the Maneuver Center of Excellence.

In that job, Sando will direct the development of Infantry and Armor force modernization, develop and integrate MCOE concepts and requirements, as well as conduct experiments to support the Infantry and Armor future force.
A brief ceremony marking his retirement will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday in classroom 6 at Infantry Hall.
