Would-be robber flees emptyhanded

See how they run.

A would-be armed robber fled empty handed from M&M Package Store, 2721 Cusseta Road, after a startled clerk fled and he apparently didn't know how to open the cash register, Columbus Police Lt. Charles Kennedy said Tuesday.

A man dressed in black with gloves and a red ski mask entered the store about 9:28 p.m., jumped across the counter and threatened the clerk with a small-caliber handgun, Kennedy said.

"The clerk ran and he had no way to get into the cash register," he said. " He was trying to figure out what to do. So he fled."

The clerk described the man as five-foot-five to five-foot-seven inches tall and light skinned.
