Opelika woman faces attempted murder charges

Opelika police have arrested a woman accused of shooting two people at a mobile home park earlier this month.

Bonnie Fay Sellers Berry, of Opelika has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after police said she shot Billy Jack McCormick and Barbara Tielking Sims at the Oak Haven Trailer Park on Marvyn Parkway on Feb. 2.

According to police, Berry went to the mobile home park at around 6:22 p.m. to confront her ex-husband, whose name wasn't released.

She allegedly shot 29-year-old McCormick outside the home, before going into the residence, and allegedly shooting Sims, 47, in the hip.

Shortly afterward, another man, whose name was not being released, used a gun to shoot Berry in the abdomen.

McCormick was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle, treated and released for minor leg injuries.

Berry and Sims were taken to the East Alabama Medical Center for treatment.

Berry is being held in the Lee County Jail.
