March against violence and crime is Saturday

A Call To Talk and 100 Women on the Move Inc., are co-sponsoring a peaceful demonstration and march against crime and violence 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday beginning in the parking lot of Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church, 222 Fifth St.

The marchers will walk the several blocks to the Columbus Government Center, where speakers will address the crowd. The Rev. J.H. Flakes Sr., pastor of Fourth Street, is scheduled to speak. The mayors of Columbus and Phenix City have been invited, as well as other officials, and the president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, the Rev. Joe Andrews of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Columbus.

"We're basically want to take our streets back and we're calling on the community to take action," said the Rev. J.H. Flakes Jr., the associate pastor.
