A former Russell County preacher charged with trying to hire someone to kill his victim was sentenced today to inappropriately touching a 15-year-old boy in 2004.
Damion Christopher Bennett, 31, formerly of Coweta Apartments on 12th Avenue in Phenix City, was sentenced by Russell County Circuit Court Judge George Greene to three years and one month in prison for the second-degree sodomy charge he pleaded guilty to in January.
Formerly a youth minister with Higher Power Outreach Church in Phenix City, Bennett committed acts on the teen between July and December 2004, prosecutors had said.
Bennett still faces a charge of solicitation to commit murder — a charge Assistant District Attorney Max Smith intends to prosecute within a few weeks.
