Accused killer has hearing Friday

Albert Darnell Durham, 23, of Columbus, was formally charged with murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, after being returned to Columbus from Stewart County Wednesday evening.

Durham, who is accused in the Saturday shooting death of George Angelo McCrary, 31, of Bond Avenue, in an apartment parking lot on Enoch Drive, faces a Columbus Recorder's Court hearing at 2 p.m. Friday. He was booked into the Muscogee County Jail at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Columbus Police Lt. Charles Kennedy said Durham started to make a statement to police after he got back to Columbus, but then stopped.

"He started off trying to put it (the murder) off on somebody else," said Kennedy. "But we've got two eyewitnesses that tell us other things. They were in the area."

Cpl. Andy Farmer and Sgt. Harvey Hatcher are expected to present the basis for the state's case against Durham at Friday's hearing.
