A Feb. 26 special called meeting of the Phenix City Council has been cancelled. The meeting been called to discuss the remarketing of the water and sewer variable rate debt.
As one special called meeting was cancelled Thursday, another was announced.
The council will have a special called meeting at 8:30 a.m. next Thursday in the third-floor conference room of the Municipal Building to discuss a utility rate increase.
The council has been discussing an increase in water and sewer rates for the last few months, citing an increase in costs for chemicals and materials since the last time the water rates were raised.

An engineering firm, Paul B. Krebs and Associates, was hired by the city last year to provide guidance in how much of an increase to make and when to make those changes.
The city has not had a rate in increase in more than five years.
