A Crawford, Ga., man was killed Saturday afternoon when he was ejected from a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle and his head struck a stop sign on Upshaw Flats Road in Russell County.
Nathaniel Upshaw, 43, reportedly made a sharp right turn and clipped the front of a second ATV about 2:40 p.m., 16 miles north of Hurtsboro, according to a spokeswoman for the Opelika Post, Alabama State Troopers. He was transported by ambulance to The Medical Center in Columbus, where Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry said Upshaw was pronounced dead at 4:20 p.m. of massive head injuries.
The spokeswoman said Upshaw was not wearing a helmet. The identity of the other driver and other details about the accident were not available Monday. But the other driver was not injured.
