The Muscular Dystrophy Association honored the Phenix City Fire/Rescue Services with the Golden Ax Award for collecting the largest amount of contributions in a community with a population of 100,000 or less.
Alabama Regional Director Beth Grimes and Georgia program director Ashley Marcott attended today's Phenix City Council meeting to address the council and make the presentation of the award.
The Phenix City firefighters collected $45,002.50 during their annual MDA "Boot Drive" by standing out in front of several area businesses collecting contributions in their firefighting boots.
The fire/rescue services has collected multiple Golden Ax awards in recent years.
