The Georgia House Rules Committee is scheduled to examine today upping the penalties for those who drive under the influence.
Under House Bill 336, those who get their first DUI would pay a fine of $300-1,000, spend a day to a year in jail and enter risk reduction and alcohol evaluation programs.
The penalties would further increase with each subsequent DUI, reaching felony level with the fourth. In that case, the offender would pay a fine of $1,000-5,000, spend at least one year in prison and enter risk reduction and alcohol evaluation programs.
