Another suspect arrested in trailer park shooting

Opelika police have arrested another suspect in a Monday afternoon shooting at a trailer park.

Douglas VonDerick Bledsoe, aka "Red", a 19-year-old Opelika resident, was charged Tuesday with one count of attempted murder and two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle. He was booked into the Lee County Jail.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred between 1:30 p.m. and 1:40 p.m. in which an excess of 20 shots were fired at the Brookhaven trailer park.

Capt. Allan Elkins said a 19-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were shot at by six suspects with semi-automatic handguns in the trailer park. The suspects also shot at one trailer seven times and another once in the upper corner. Two cars, a 1998 Chevy Cavalier and a 2005 Dodge Neon were also shot.

No one was injured, Elkins said.

Another suspect, Vandrae Shaun Michael Chambers of Opelika, was booked into the Lee County jail yesterday on a charge of attempted murder. Elkins said Wednesday that Chambers has also been charged with two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Police are still looking for four other suspects in the case. Anyone else with information on the case can contact the Opelika police at 334-705-5200 or 334-705-5221 or the anonymous tip line at 334-745-8665.
