A bullet from a .38-caliber pistol hit Fredrick Fowler in his face, bounced off his cheek and was lodged in his shoulder where it remains.
Shot by Johnny Grier minutes before the clock ticked over into Sept. 7, the 64-year-old Columbus man pleaded guilty today to aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Muscogee County Superior Court Senior Judge Bill Smith sentenced Grier to five years in prison, followed by 10 years probation for the shooting outside of Grier's 100 Havenbrook Court apartment.
"You may not be able to tell it was a gunshot wound, but he still has a scar," said Senior Assistant District Attorney Stacey Jackson. "The victim is lucky to be alive under the circumstances."
