House mulls alcohol tax bill

A bill scheduled for the Georgia House Rules Committee today would add more government involvement in the collection of taxes on alcohol.

House Bill 1280 would allow local governments to collect taxes on alcohol sales in Regional Economic Assistance Projects (REAPs). REAPs are typically tourism related and intended to produce growth in a rural areas.

Alcohol sales in REAPs could also occur during times permitted by state law, superceding any local restriction on alcohol sales.
