Groundbreaking for the 173rd Airborne memorial at the site of the new National Infantry Museum off Benning Boulevard has been scheduled for July 11 at 11 a.m.
The $650,000 memorial will honor the more than 1,600 "sky soldiers" who died during the Vietnam War.
Construction is expected to last about a year with a formal dedication planned for 2009.
The museum is expected to open to the public in March of next year.
