Columbus woman dies in wreck

A Columbus woman died in a two-car wreck on Steam Mill Road Sunday night.

Cheryl Grier, 44, of 747 Belvedere Drive was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:07 p.m. by Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Pamela Smith near the intersection of Steam Mill and Dogwood Avenue.

According to the Columbus Police Report, Grier was traveling east on Steam Mill Road near Dogwood in a green 1998 Saturn SL2 when a silver Toyota Avalon driven by Timothy Fleming, 25, of 1739 Dupree Court in Columbus, traveling west crossed the center line, strking the Saturn in the left front of the avalon. That was at 10:21 p.m.

Both cars were badly damaged. Fleming and a passenger in Avalon were transported to the Medical Center for treatment and were released. The passenger in the Avalon was Stefany Drakes 23, of 412 Olsen Ave., Columbus. The passenger in the Saturn was Charese Grier, 9, of 747 Belvedere Drive who was also taken to the Medical Center and released.

The case is under investigation.
