The Briant Wells Fieldhouse will maintain its name but instead of providing workout facilities for Fort Benning soldiers and their families it is now the home of the Army Combatives School.
"We've more than doubled our space," said Matt Larsen, the school's director and the father of the modern combatives program, as he, 197th Infantry Brigade commander Col. Gregory Kane and Command Sgt. Maj. Russell Sadler participated in the grand openiong of the facility Monday morning.
More than $500,000 was pumped into Briant Wells to transform it from its health club status to the ACS.
"Maybe the best addition is the new heating and air conditioning system," said Larsen as he led a tour of the building.
