Local residents should prepare for cold snap

Columbus and Phenix City residents should cover flowering plants and shrubs tonight as temperatures are expected to hover around freezing in most of the area.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City is expecting freezing temperatures for a number of counties in Alabama and Georgia overnight. Most of the subfreezing weather is expected on a line north of Phenix City/Columbus, with Harris County the southernmost point.

The weather will not be exactly balmy here, however. Less than a week after the official beginning of spring, Bi-City residents can expect temperatures in the lower 30s just above the freezing mark.

You may not need the winter coat, but a sleeves will be must during this cold snap.
