Bullets found on student, gun found at school

An anonymous tip Tuesday led Hannan Elementary School officials to find bullets in a fifth-grader's backpack and a gun on school grounds.

Administrators at the Talbotton Road school got the tip before lunch, hearing that someone had brought a gun to the school about three weeks ago, said Valerie Fuller, communications director for the Muscogee County School District. The boy's backpack was searched and bullets found.

School grounds were searched and a gun was found in the afternoon near a fence at the back boundary of the school. No bullets were found in the gun.

"The student's been suspended and will face tribunal," Fuller said. "The investigation is basically ongoing."
