Kiryu, Japan, is Columbus' sister city, and 10 high school students and their chaperone begin a visit today.
The Columbus State University's Center for International Education is coordinating the 10-day visit. Each of the students will live with a local family.
The visit is sponsored by Aflac through the Mayor's Commission of International Relations and Cultural Liaison Encounters.
The students will visit the CSU English Language Institute, Columbus City Council, Aflac and Columbus High School.
There will also be a public event, "Asia Night," 6-8 p.m. April 2 in the International House, which is on the corner of University Avenue and Clearview Circle. There will be demonstrations of traditional Japanese clothing, food, calligraphy and origami. It's free.
The students will tour Atlanta on April 3 and leave for Japan on April 4.
