Georgia bill targers music, video sharing

A bill under consideration in the Georgia House Rules Committee would increase the penalties for those who swap music online.

Senate Bill 406 would make the minimum fine $500 for the first offense of illegally reproducing, distributing, transferring, selling or circulating recorded material.

The second offense makes the minimum fine $1,000 and requires at least 48 hours incarceration.

The third offense requires at least six days in jail and up to five years in prison.

Any equipment used in the crime would by forfeited to the state.
