Girlfriend may have helped man avoid robbery

Circumstance may have helped a Columbus man avoid getting robbed Sunday.

James Sharp was walking along Cusseta Road around 9:30 p.m. Sunday when a van pulled up beside him, Columbus Police Lt. Charles Kennedy said.

Three men yelled at him, saying they would rob him before they pulled into the nearby parking lot of Macedonia Christian Ministries, just down the road from where Sharp was walking.

Sharp's girlfriend happened to be driving by at the time, and he hopped inside her car, Kennedy said.

"We are definitely going to follow up on it," the lieutenant said.
