Gas hits record high — slightly — in Columbus

It was another record high for gasoline today in Columbus, if only slightly.

The average price of regular unleaded climbed to $3.237 per gallon, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report. It is two-tenths higher than the day before.

That's up from $3.14 per gallon a month ago and $2.52 per gallon on April 1 a year ago.

The highest average recorded in Georgia Tuesday is $3.27 per gallon in Savannah and Albany, an all-time high for the latter city.

The state's lowest average can be found in Augusta, which is just under $3.19 per gallon.

Diesel appears to have leveled off locally for the moment, slipping more than two pennies to $3.98 per gallon today in Columbus.

On the national front, the average for regular unleaded today is $3.29 per gallon, AAA reported. Diesel is $4.04 per gallon.
