Church fire could have been arson

Faith Tabernacle Ministries was the victim of arson over the weekend, authorities report.

The 2,000 square-foot building at 6880 Hunter Road was set ablaze around 5 a.m. Sunday, said Fire Marshall Thomas Streeter.

"It was an intentionally set on fire," he said. "We currently have it under investigation."

The fire, which started on the west wall and caused visible flames above the roof, was put under control by 5:30 a.m., Streeter said.The main damage was in the kitchen, though smoke and water damage is throughout the building.

About $40,000 in damage was done to the building, and $15,000 to the church's contents.
