Book and bake sale benefits local library

Even with a $50 budget and most items costing a dollar or less, Sandra Holt wasn't sure if she had enough left after buying books for dessert Saturday morning.

Holt, her arms full of hardbacks, joined others shopping for books, baked goods, CDs, DVDs, and VHS cassettes at the annual Phenix City-Russell County Friends of the Library Book and Bake sale at the library.

Proceeds from the sale will go to support the library, said Martha Noyes, director of the Phenix City-Russell County Public Library.

Noyes said 2007 was the first year for the event, with two sales that year. The Saturday sale was the first of 2008.
