Auburn man dead from accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound

Auburn police have released the identity of a man found dead from a gunshot wound Wednesday afternoon.

Desmond C. Stinson of Auburn was found in his residence on Lee Road 84 suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the torso. He was pronounced dead by Lee County coroner Bill Harris at 5:22 p.m.

A preliminary autopsy report indicated that the gunshot wound an accidental, self-inflicted injury.

Stinson, 28, was found when police responded to a 911 call about a domestic problem at the residence at around 4:26 p.m.

His body was sent to Montgomery for an autopsy.

The case remains under investigation by Auburn police, the coroner's office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
