Rare chance to get passports on a Saturday

The Columbus Post Office Downtown Station will accept passport applications on May 3 — a Saturday — during a summer-themed passport fair.

People can apply for passports that day from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Traditionally, passports are available only Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at three Columbus post office locations. Traditional passport books cost $100, or $85 for ages 16 and younger. A passport card, good only for travel to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda, is $45 ($35 for 16 and younger). If you need a photo taken at the post office, there's an additional $15 charge.

The downtown post office is at 120 Twelfth Street in Columbus. Details: 706-562-1782.
