598th, some brigade soldiers return tonight

The 598th Maintenance Company, which deployed from Fort Benning to Iraq in January 2007, is scheduled to return to post shortly before midnight tonight.

Approximately 170 soldiers from the unit, which is part of the 13th Combat Support Sustainment Battalion, will be aboard the chartered aircraft along with about 100 soldiers from the advance party of the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team. The 598th Maintenance, under the command of Capt. Andrea Rogers, provided direct support maintenance and recovery support to seven forward operating bases and one “fly away” (a small base with no vehicle traffic) while serving in Iraq.

The remainder of the brigade's advance party, which has been held up in Kuwait for more than a week, is tentatively scheduled to arrive at Lawson Army Airfield on Saturday at 2:40 p.m. Approximately 275 soldiers will be on that aircraft.

Also: There's been a change in the departure time for the 63rd Engineer Company. Originally scheduled for Sunday, the unit will now leave Lawson Army Airfield at 8:45 p.m. on Monday.
