Accused killer in Auburn student case waives hearing

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) _ The man accused of murdering an Auburn University student waived his preliminary hearing and wants the judge to impose a gag order.

Courtney Lockhart was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Wednesday in the March 4 death of Auburn freshman Lauren Burk.

Lead defense attorney Joel Collins said he filed a request for a gag order last week. Lockhart is charged with three counts of capital murder.

Lee County District Attorney Nick Abbett said he doesn't have a problem with a gag order.

Lockhart was arrested three days after Burk was found lying in the roadway on Alabama Highway 147. She died of a gunshot wound at a local hospital.
