Columbus teen gets 6 years for child molestation

A Columbus teen was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison for child molestation.

Christopher R. Hovey, 18, was 17-years-old when he molested a 12-year-old girl, Assistant District Attorney David Helmick said. Arrested in March 2007, Hovey pleaded guilty to the crime in June, though Superior Court Judge John Allen didn't sentence him to six years in prison, followed by nine on probation, until after the completion of a psychological evaluation and pre-sentence report.

"I think it was a proper sentence in this case," Helmick said.

Hovey, who must register as a sex offender, molested the girl a number of times. After his arrest, he wrote love letters to another girl, who was 14-years-old.
