Broadway SpringFest kicks off tonight with a Ma Rainey tribute concert beginning at 7 p.m.
This afternoon, students from local elementary schools will showcase their artistic talents in a Sidewalk Chalk Expo. The Kendrick High School Jazz combo also performs during the lunch hour.
The downtown event, sponsored by the Columbus Convention & Visitors Bureau, continues Saturday with offerings that span art, food and entertainment.
The festival will take place between the 900 and 1200 blocks of Broadway, as well as along 10th Avenue in front of the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. Only the 1100 block of Broadway, where most of the bands will perform, will be closed to traffic.
Saturday's events include a Family Fun Area, the return of Market Days and lots of live music.
