Barbero takes command Nov. 18
Maj. Gen. Michael Barbero, the chief of strategic operations for U.S. forces in Iraq, will become Fort Benning's commander on Nov. 18, post officials said Friday.
Barbero will succeed Maj. Gen. Walt Wojdakowski as the post's commanding general and commandant of the Infantry School.
The change of command ceremony, which will begin at 10 a.m., is scheduled for York Field.
Wojdakowski, who earlier had set a Sept. 1 retirement date, will now leave the Army on Jan. 1.
