Columbus gas prices inch up to record high

The acceleration of gas prices has slowed in Columbus, but the city's average still ticked to yet another record high today.

The average price of regular gas hit $3.992 per gallon locally, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report and the Oil Price Information Service. That's up from $3.991 on Monday.

Columbus gas prices are 17 cents per gallon higher than they were a month ago. They are $1.06 per gallon higher than on June 18 a year ago.

Athens, at $4.04 per gallon, and Atlanta, at nearly $4.03 per gallon, have the highest average price today in Georgia.

Augusta, Macon and Valdosta all were under $3.96 per gallon, giving them the lowest averages in the state.

Diesel fuel prices today in Columbus are $4.77 per gallon.

The U.S. average for regular gas, meanwhile, remains steady at $4.08 per gallon, AAA reported, while diesel is just shy of $4.80 per gallon.
