The road across the West Point Dam will be closed to all vehicular traffic on Tuesday.
The temporary closure, according to a press release from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is necessary to facilitate the use of a crane on the concrete portion of the dam.
The crane will be used to set temporary blocks called "stop logs" into the dam in order to stop the flow of water to Generator No. 3 so that the head gates that normally control the water flow may be inspected.
Alternate routes across the river are the U.S. Highway 29 bridge in West Point, Ga. and the Georgia Highway 109 bridge near LaGrange, Ga.
