A heads-up police officer is credited for arresting two men wanted in connection with the attempted armed robbery and armed robbery of Waffle Houses on Macon Road and Flat Rock Road.
At 2:20 a.m. police were called to the Waffle House at 3455 Macon Road to investigate an attempted armed robbery. Witnesses told police two men between the ages of 17 and 20 years of age walked into the restaurant and demanded money. The employees refused and the men fled.
Shortly after, Columbus Police patrolman Walt Woodall saw a vehicle occupied by three passengers, two of whom looked like the suspects wanted in the previous Waffle House incident. Woodall stopped the car and took two men into custody for questioning.
Subsequent investigation led to the men's arrest for trying to rob the Waffle House on Macon Road as well robbing the one at 6390 Flat Rock Road.
Brody Jaden Birks, 18, of Waverly Hall and Justin Wayne Kanady, 20, of Columbus were each charged with armed robbery and criminal attempt armed robbery. Both men are scheduled to appear in Recorder's Court on Saturday at 8 a.m.
