The Muscogee County School Board voted today to appoint chief academic officer Peggy Connell as interim superintendent until Sept. 1, when soon-to-be retired superintendent John Phillips will take over the position.
Phillips, who retires Aug. 1, will be employed as interim superintendent for 90 days while the board searches for a permanent replacement.
The vote during the called board meeting to approve Connell and Phillips's appointment was 5-4, with board members Cathy Williams, Fife Whiteside, Naomi Buckner and Joe Roberson dissenting.
