Lillian Shepherd of Columbus didn't see the tree limb until just before she hit it.
"It was raining so hard I couldn't see but then I was right there and hit the brakes. I'm just glad I didn't get any broken bones," said the woman who was on her way home from dialysis.
She might have been injured if she'd come along just a couple of minutes earlier when heavy wind and rain caused the limb to snap off from a huge oak tree that a police officer guessed might be 100 years old. The limb blocked both lanes of Brennan Road in south Columbus. City crews were on the scene quickly with their power saws.
